Idaho Statesman did this video a couple years ago.  Great job, Pete.

The says, "An hour and twenty minutes north of Boise via Highway 55, ( 7 min. south of Ashley Inn) your own “private Idaho” version of cross country ski trails await. On any given day, the parking lot will have plenty of space for you, and you’ll never have traffic on the trails. There are plenty of options: a long tour in a wide-open meadow, perfect for sunny days; rolly polly trails in the aspens at the base of the hills of more moderate difficulty; or curvy skiing in the pine trees by ponds and sleeping geese.

The skiing is free, and dogs and snowshoers are also welcome. Take Highway 55 north towards Cascade until Cabarton Road. The turn off is about ten minutes before Cascade. If you’ve reached mile marker 107, you’ve gone too far. Turn left on Cabarton—right before Clear Creek Restaurant—and drive about a mile until you get to the big meadow (before the river). The trails are on your left.

The Southern Valley County Recreation District (SVCRD) has done an excellent job maintaining these relatively new trails. They even have a new, big grooming machine this year. This is a great alternative to trails at Bogus Basin, that can often be crowded on weekends, and they aren’t free. It’s worth the extra driving time; Highway 55 is especially pretty in the winter.
